This year marked a milestone anniversary year for Pam and Rob, 40 years of marriage on December 17th.We went back to Europe at the end of October and spent 10 days in Italy with a group of our friends (mostly in a villa in Tuscany). We enjoyed great Italian cooking, wine, and the beautiful Tuscan hill towns. We had a private tour of Rome. In Milan we shared our hotel with Oscar winner Roberto Benini and viewed the fresco of the Last Supper with Rudi Juliani. Our best times were had gathered with our friends for meals and lively conversation and even singing some "oldies."
This was a year of multiple vacations with a return to PLP in July with Kent, Shannon, and the boys (Sylvan and Kai) plus a trip to Colorado in August for the baptism of Eric and Kristen's girls (Eva,8 and Autumn,5). Eric and family are in a new larger house in Lafayette.
Plans had been made for us all to gather in Flourtown for Christmas but a blizzard in Denver prevented Ryan from making the trip. (photo of Ryan and his new truck) We had a wonderful family meal celebrating our anniversary with all but Ryan on hand.
Pam finished a Master Home Gardener program at Temple University, Ambler and put her new expertise into action for an improved look for our yard and gardens. Home improvement was a theme with hook up to sewers, repaved driveway, new roof, granite counter in the kitchen, seven new windows, new interior paint, and refinished floor in kitchen and family room. The driveway serves the next generation for big wheels as it did for their fathers thirty years earlier.
Rob continues on his pursuit of a Master in Divinity degree at Lutheran seminary in Mt. Airy and if all goes well should graduate in December of 2006. He has been working as a chaplain at Abington Hospital (Eric and Andrew's birthplace) as part of his Clinical Pastoral Education requirement.
Pam continues to take photos, read, solve crosswords, knit, and quilt, plus manage our livestock - ten hens and a rooster. We mourn the loss of our toy poodle "Shadow" after 15 years with us. Our all white cat "Sugar", our only four legged pet, is now "Queen" of the house.
We have been blessed by our wonderful family having regular visits and time together - Andrew is a short train ride away (center city) and Kent, Shannon, and brood are a half-hour away in their new house in Media. Pam is now able to fly again which means we can get to Colorado easily to catch up with Ryan, Eric, Kristen, and the girls.
Our newest business enterprise is our store on Ebay called "Ryan's Attic" where we sell things that we acquire at some local country auctions. Pam has great fun doing this and loves getting bargains. This has caused the garage and office to fill up with stuff. Pam says, "If you need anything it's probably in our basement!"
A prayer for us all in 2006 attributed to St. Francis de Sales:
Do not look forward to what might happen tomorrow. The same and everlasting father that cares for you today will care for you tomorrow and every day. Either he will shield you from suffering or give you unfailing strength to bear it. So be at peace and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations. Amen
